Coach Chappo has been instructing diving for 35 years. His current and former divers have set numerous records including Conference, Sectional, and Regional records. During the 96-97 season, Mr. Chappo became the first person in Indiana High School Diving to coach the men's and women's state champion in the same year. He has been named the state diving coach of the year on four different occasions. He served on the All American Selection Committee for three years, a 1974 graduate of Ball State University, and is an elementary school teacher in Portage.
Scott has been coaching High School diving since 1988 with a short break from 1999-2003. He started coaching Portage High School's boys and girls diving teams his first year after graduating from Valparaiso High School. He coached for 9 successful seasons at Portage producing IHSAA state medalists, Duneland Athletic Conference champions and IHSAA sectional champions. Upon returning to Northwest Indiana he took a position at Valparaiso High School as Assistant Diving Coach under his former mentor Bill Chappo and continues in that capacity today. Scott was a DAC champion and state qualifier while diving at Valparaiso High School.
